About

Josh

My work sits somewhere between observation and imagination, using ink and marker to build landscapes that feel familiar even when they don’t belong to any real place. A lot of what I make comes from studying environmental science, but I’m less interested in documenting specific locations than I am in the ways people and nature slowly reshape each other over time. I keep coming back to the feeling that something important is always being lost, even if it’s hard to say exactly what. I like working with materials that don’t let me erase much. Every line stays, every strange decision becomes part of the drawing, and I’ve learned that’s usually better than chasing something perfect. I’m not trying to hand people a message or tell them what to think, I’d rather make work that rewards looking a little longer and paying a little more attention. If someone walks away noticing the world differently, even for a minute, then I feel like the drawing did its job. And sometimes I just doodle complete nonsense.

The work balances close observation with atmosphere, leaving room for texture, quiet color, and the trace of the hand.
